King Roc says: "What's Equilibrium about? An event that happened in the Alps somewhere around Chamonix, France. I was on a snowboarding trip with some friends. I am an OK rider - not amazing. Then near the end of the holiday I had the most incredible riding experience of my life so far. Suddenly I was ten times better, riding faster than ever before and making all my turns perfectly.
"Then suddenly I came back to myself, the experience ended. As quickly as I could, I slowed down before I lost control.
"Later that evening, I tried to work out what had happened. I was amazed. I didn’t think about how I should be riding technically. I didn’t feel any fear towards to possible danger. I was unconcerned about the vanity of how I looked or what anyone thought of me.
"I wasn’t thinking about anything at all.
That might sound crazy. Doing something as potentially dangerous as snowboarding at high speeds down an icy and potentially treacherous mountain. But for the first time in my life I had experienced being totally in the moment’ begin really present. No noise in my head, no thoughts getting in the way of telling me what to do or how to be.
"But I wasn’t just numbed like a bored child on a rainy day. I was awed and inspired.
"That’s the theme for the third Chapter ‘Equilibrium’. How do we find a way to enjoy just this moment? No questioning thoughts clouding our minds. No worries or fears. No ego or pride. I’m not religious but I do want to believe there is more than just - life ‘ work ‘ death. Trying to find ways to experience the ‘moment’ seems like a good endeavour to me.
"Music does many things for many people but one of its greatest quantities is to make you experience ‘right now’ almost by default. The experience of listening to music and I mean really listening, not putting it on while you busy yourself with other things, works in a way to bring you into each second you are in the song. It may not be as adrenaline-loaded as speeding down a mountain on a plank of wood and plastic but is still just as important and probably a lot more attainable for most of us. If you can’t get on a snowboard I at least hope you enjoy listening to this...’
