"Being an avant gardener" - Tim Sheridan on Data Transmission ahead of the Matter gig...

Yes he's been interviewed to fuck on any dance music site or mag worth its disco salt, but fact of the matter is that VeryVeryWrongIndeed don Tim Sheridan has always got something interesting to say/rant/get off his chest. Now with the VVWI label as well established as its sporadic parties, the brand name is a global phenomenon, and despite his many years in the game, Tim is solely dedicated to discovering new, unknown talent and giving it a leg-up.

We caught up with him ahead of a recent gig in Liverpool. What could we possibly say that might rile him?

Tim Sheridan chart on Juno

My first fisherprice attempt at a Juno chart. Most of the tunes chosen are old as I tend to work with my label's tracks mostly these days. Look out for Adrian Martin of Zurich. Ace. It's a bit of a cheat as I don't buy new stuff anymore (due to the label providing my sets) but I do like a nice ogle on Juno to keep abreast.

Gird your loins, pull up your sleeves and tuck that bloody shirt in

Spektre and Jesper Dahlback are among the special guests for veryverywrongindeed's first matter night

We most cordially invite you in celebration of this spectacle to :

The Grand All-Comers Remix Competition

Which offers chance to launch your production career and hear your own remix played out on the Room 1 system

matter welcomes Ibiza Free Party and Afterhours fanatic Tim Sheridan on Saturday June 27th, when he brings his notorious VVWI party to the venue for a night of determinedly demented debauch... coupled with the most rum, rug-cuttingly deep and wonky music that one can muster.

Joining Tim for one of his customary back-to-back sets will be europe's favourite wunderkinds and remixers de jour, techno duo Spektre, who
will throwdown with Tim for a full 3 hour session. They'll be joined by Jesper Dahlback - the Swedish producer-extraordinaire
recently enlisted by Tiga to help give his album that extra dancefloor punch, who makes his own debut appearance at matter that night.

matter resident Paul Woolford will also feature, with Circo Loco and Zombies Ate My Brain's Shane Watcha and Overload's
Biased Guy and Schadenfreude completing the line up, setting us up for a weirdo house and
techno tear up, with all the beastly atmosphere of the grimiest victorian warehouse raves.

Budding producers take note: to celebrate VVWI Recordings' matter debut, they've put together a
very special competition for you to get involved on the night. Sheridan will make available the parts to the next VVWI single Villain
through the label's website, inviting anyone who fancies
taking a crack at a remix to submit their efforts. Tim will then select the best for release
AND play the winning entry as part of his set at matter - while the remixer and up to 10 friends enjoy
hearing their effort resonating through the venue's unrivaled soundsystem from the comfort of their own VIP table.

Imagine the sheer peer arousal involved. Boggling.

The Gap reviews Abe's Don't be so mean [in German]

Abe Duque
Don’t Be So Mean

King Roc makes the URB annual 100...

KING ROC
Martin Dawson has found his niche in schizophrenia, self-describing his musical journey as "rock, metal, some hip-hop, breakbeat and electro; techno ... deep house, tech house [and] deep electronic house". His EPs within Mutual Society echo what King Roc calls "a throwback to the hippy albums of the 70s" - dreamy, auditory landscapes that wonderfully emote a sense of the artist behind the work. It seems that for King Roc, joy comes not from the body of work he produces but the process itself.

Check the whole feature out, it's great - URB 100.

OUT NOW! Worthy and Yankee Zulu - Bad Side with killer Hannah Holland remix

If you thought Spinach Boy had a sort of wonky, honky wrongness to it, wait till you get a load of our new one - Worthy and Yankee Zulu track present ... the Bad Side.

Their last track on Playtime, the BS Connection, was described as "a bomb" by Shir-I-Khan and as "stupid fresh nightclub music" by Prins Thomas. Now they've turned to the Bad Side (c'mon, you knew that was coming ...), and they've taken Hannah Holland with them.

The original is a synthy monster, and on the flip Hannah gives it a bit of slinky Batty Bass and turns it into pure London. Welcome to the Bad Side, princess!

"Mean, clean and dirty, all at the same time" - Ben Watt.

"Utterly, utterly brilliant." - IDJ

"Excellent track. Can't wait to play it." - Abe Duque

"Really like the woozy bass of the original here." - Philip Sherburne.

"BS connection was a big tune for me, so this is in da wallet. thanks." - Tom Findlay (Groove Armada)

"Das Original ist ganz fett!" - Lars Wickinger

"Yeah, really liking the wonky/rave house cross that this track pursues" - Joe Gardner, Radio1

"Cool groove" - Sebastian Leger.

Catzmuzik is back. The label whose last track Straitjacket had raves from Justin Martin, the Italoboyz, Hannah Holland and Simon Baker. And the club that started with a little houseparty for, oh, 1500 across four flats off Brick Lane – which got so big that a cab rank spontaneously formed outside. Since then, Catzmuzik has held parties at Egg - the biggest free party that club had seen - and then Aquarium, with guests like Marc Romboy and the inimitable Andre Crom.

Then it stopped. The reason?

Aerobics techno.

Instructional house.

Music that wants you to move the way it wants you to move – up down, up down, cheer now, go wild.

JUST SAY NO!

Join us instead on the return of Catzmuzik for a night of non-instructional house, nonchalant techno and music with a sense of fun that's stress-tested for more than just the dancefloor. Special guest Spiritcatcher downstairs and Faith's Stuart Patterson and Cut +Shut Disco upstairs giving you a proper disco workout …
SPIRITCATCHER (DJ SET)
With influences from Quincy Jones right through to Derrick May and releases on labels including 2020, Freerange, Soma's Darkroom Dubs, and Simple, Spirit Catcher is one of the best future disco outfits around. This groovy, deep and elastic DJ set will have to be heard to be believed - come and check it out, and also Spirit Catcher's just-released Coast to Coast comp on NRK.

DAN CAT (CATZMUZIK)
Back when the Catz were a duo, DJ mag called them “globe-trotting house/techno/minimal hotshots”. Now the Catz have disbanded, Dan's just spent 10 months out traveling, recording, remixing techno classics like Andre Crom's Notaufnahme for release on Veryverywrongindeed Recordings, and fiddling with basslines in preparation for the return of the Catzmuzik label – first track, Winterslow, out June with an amazing Max Cooper remix…

BIG DADDY (PLAYTIME / PROCESS RECS)
With raves for recent tracks from Cassius, Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, Arthur Baker, Zombie Disco Squad, Prins Thomas, Style of Eye, Luke Solomon, Rodomaal, Jesse Rose, Tenaglia and more, Playtime Records is succeeding in its mission to reinject lazy grooves, wry humour and impeccable production chops into every scene. Check out the next track, Worthy and Yankee Zulu's immense Bad Side…

MARK SUN
Mark's sound is big, live and unashamedly cinematic. Drawing as much inspiration from heavyweight film composers as his clubbing heroes, Mark's productions inject drama and emotion into the gritty minimal techno sound - allowing glitchy percussion to sit side by side with soaring Hollywood strings and live guitars.

And in the East Village box ...

STUART PATTERSON (FAITH)
Having helped start Soulsonic, Deviant, Rebel Waltz and Transfusion Records, and as part of London's pivotal Faith collective, Stuart Patterson has been at the forefront of London's cutting-edge clubbing for more than a decade. With four compilations under his belt, he's been a force for spreading proper house music (a genre way wider than most people realise) and he's continuing that today with a heavy European touring schedule, his new venue East Village, and his work with the Faith Fanzine www.faithfanzine.com.

CUT AND SHUT DISCO
A love for good music is what you need. A like-minded taste in music is an excuse to come and enjoy the fun when Cut and Shut sets up camp in any place suitable for a good night. Having now played in most dark corners of east london over the last two years, their disco, house, punk-funk and electro has become a fixture in East London's scene...

KING ROC JOINS ELITE FOR BOOKINGS

The reviews and gigs have been amazing - for both sides of King Roc's music.

As a solo artist, he's just released a critically acclaimed debut CD, Chapters. DJ mag gave it three pages, calling it "arrestingly beautiful - album of the month". In Germany, De:bug magazine said the album is "Dance music coming of age - an art-house opera", Keys magazine shouted "GRAB IT!" and Lodown called King Roc "the forward thinking mastermind of 21st century club music". Data Transmission says Chapters is "an absolute success and a future classic," M8 "a revelation" and IDJ "timeless" and "perfect for the afterhours - 10/10".

Alongside this, King Roc's also kept up his work as half of wildly successful deep-house and techno duo Two Armadillos. This week he and partner Giles Smith hit #1 on the Beatport deep house chart, and their music has had raves from DJs from Ben Watt to Agoria to Raresh to Tiefschwartz to Shinedoe. Coming up: more remixes and original releases on 2000 and One's label Bang Bang, Guido Schneider's Motivbank and STHLM Audio - all out before May.

Contact Elite for bookings for King Roc's new live set as well as DJ sets. And check out The Beginning, a video collaboration with Drunkpark and the lead single from Chapters - now out with Alex Kenji and Jericho dub remixes, and further remixes from Darko Esser, D-Nox and Beckers, Clouded Vision and the fantastic Abe Duque coming down the track, as well as return remix of Abe by King Roc ...
